So called "beauty spots" where very popular among the French nobility during the 18th century. They were made of black taffeta. Here follows an explanation to the meaning behind them:
1. One placed on the forehead was majestic.
2. By wearing it somewhere near the eye you showed people you were passionate.
3. A beauty spot on the temple meant dignity.
4. Placed on the nose you showed that you were impudent.
5. Placed in the middle of the cheek it meant you wanted to have some "fun".
6. If you placed it on your right cheek you showed people you were married. (I know I know, if this had been a real person it would have been the wrong cheek but who cares. ^^)
7. One near the lips showed that she (or he) wanted to flirt.
8. One on the lower lip meant that the person was discreet.
9. A beauty spot placed between the chin and the lower lip meant that the person wearing it could keep a secret.
10. When it covered a pimple or something it was called "the thief".
I was just wondering if I could use this picture in my drama presentation? We're doing tartuffe and moliere and I have to do costuming, and I can't find any other decent pictures of beauty spots. If you say no I'll copy up a different reference. thanks!
